We are happy to announce our first Robot Project Contest. People have been building awesome robots from our kits and parts for 15 years. We want to do a better job of recognizing and rewarding these efforts.

The project must be based on a Lynxmotion robot kit, or anything created with our Servo Erector Set series of brackets and components. This can be anything from a Robotic Arm or Rover to a Johnny 5 or 3DOF Hexapod. We're looking for anything that has been added or modified to improve the aesthetics or the functionality of the robot. Your take on your favorite movie robot, or your version of a Mars Rover would be cool. Submitting a stock build is not likely to draw much attention. we are looking for something unique, interesting and different. For custom builds it must use the SES components as the primary construction material.

If you've got a robot project that you're not certain fits the contest criteria, go ahead and post it!

The entries must be posted here in this section of the forum. Even if the robot has been posted in other sections of the website. The first post is the submission, so you should edit it to keep it up to date. The entry must have quality higher resolution images and clear video as a minimum. We will also require a full write up of the parts used, the problems solved, or the inspiration for the project, etc. We need details. At the time of this writing we do not have the ability to host the images or video. You will need to find a place to host them for now. You are encouraged to post what you have as soon as possible. You will have time to edit your post to fulfill the contest requirements as you require.

The contest time frame has been extended to July 31st. The awards are as follows:

Kit / SES Robot Contest
1st Place = $350.00 gift certificate
2nd Place = $200.00 gift certificate
3rd Place = $100.00 gift certificate

Edit 02-25-09: Clarified the posting information. Added some text formatting.

Edit 05-11-09: Added the following information.
We have about 20 days left in the contest. Due to the low number of entries we are considering reducing the scope of the contest to a single set of first, second and third place for entries based on either kits or SES based robots. We also reserve the right to extend the dead line another 30 or 60 days. We will make a final decision in a week or two.

Edit 05-14-09: Changed the scope of the competition to include a single event based on any of our robot kits and / or custom SES based robot projects. We also extended the submission date out to July 31st.

Hi,

This sound like a fun contest, great initative Lynxmotion!

Does previously posted project that are reposted in this section also count? Or do it need to be total new (not seen before...) projects?

Fantastic idea!

I think there are some really great innovating bots around. I've seen a great "Ant" project somewhere and I don't want to forget a SES, where do I put my batteries, vacuum parts, quad. Can't remember where though

Would be great if they could enter to!

What's the deadline for the entries?

I really love the idea!

Xan

EDIT: Sorry, I've overlooked the deadline from the first post...

this is a good point. most users i find, find funding their robotic hobbys
"myself included" hard. most of the money and time spent on these
projects are on our current ideas.

So the robot needs to be constructed using SES parts then? what if we make custom parts? any chance there could be a third category for non-SES robots? then again, that would defeat the entire purpose of your contest; to promote your products, so i somehow doubt that will happen  . but still... Zenta does custom built parts and his robots are undoubtedly the most awesome robots ever (like the Phoenix and A-pod).

Yes, custom components are allowed, as long as the majority of the robot is constructed with SES and other Lynxmotion parts. We will request that if you use custom molded shells or some other covering that you submit pictures of the robot's "skeleton" so that we can see it.

My robot can participate in some category? Is a "Home made" biped robot, but I use lynxmotion parts for the "bones" and the SCC-32 for control the 22 servos. Here is an example in combat:

PS: I'm from Spain (UE ) thats a problem?

Thanks for your time.
