Hi guys,

I would love to order a Lynx 5 arm but I have a problem that a few people seem to have brought up.

I live in Taiwan and the quoted shipping price is over US$100 for less than 1kg of goods. I could just about live with this if UPS wasn't involved - I have had so many problems with stuff shipped from the US by UPS that I could not bring myself to use them again. I can ship the same weight to the US for less than $15 on our EMS account - maddening, huh?

I understand that this is a small operation with limited resources and I don't even mind paying extra for your time if you could work out some other option. Any suggestions?

use a distibutor closer to you rather than buying from lynxmotion direct.

This dosen't excuse Lynxmotion from coming up with better shipping options.

Sorry for the harsh tone, I just came back from essay writing... :(

Unfortunately the only 'distributor' we have in Taiwan is not really a distributor but just some guy who waits for you to order parts from him, then takes your money, buys from Lynxmotion and adds a 50% markup on top of what it would cost directly AFTER shipping! I wouldn't really mind if he actually kept stuff in stock. But this way I pay 150% for something that will take an extra week or so than buying direct and have to wait days for this guy to reply by email.. hmm, not a very attractive option :?

I understand that my one order is a bit of a hassle in the grand scheme of things but like I said I'm happy to cover any expenses involved in helping me find an alternative option.

I'd wait until Jim comes back from vacation, then maybe he can probably work something out.

I'm pretty sure theres a distrubuter in India, It's still quite a bit far but much less then the US and you can probably get better shipping prices and on the whole pay less.

Actually I think Australia or New Zealand would be a better option, and there are more than one distributor too!

This is the same problem I have been having for ages!
I live in Australia, and I have found that the options here aren't that great either.

RobotOz, only has a couple of items with no infomation on their website about the products, or postage etc. I have delt with them, and found it very difficult (no answer on the phone, long waits on emails etc.).
World of Robotics is over priced, and while they are based about 10min away from me, they don't seem to want my business enough to reply to my questions about prices and postage/pick-up.
The New Zealand distributer is new, so I'm not sure, but I would like more of a selection.

Even if they were all great, the prices would be more than ordering direct if Lynxmotion would just offer USPS, and another payment option. I didn't think another shipping option would be that hard to organise.

I don't want to sound all bitter and bad news, but this hobby is expensive enough, so my business is on hold till I don't have to pay the world to get it here. Jim, if you can organise something, please let me know, I have quite a bit on my wishlist.

UPSS is better than UPS, but you have to remember that all postal companies are the same. None more realiable or more convinient than the other IMO. :?

There are only two people I hate on this earth, people who judge other people by their jobs, and postal service workers. JK

I looked at the Australian distributors (closer than India) and to be honest I don't feel comfortable giving them my cash. They're also about 20% more than the direct price from Lynxmotion.

So basicly the only option that is left is that Jim creates new kinds of postal services or you pay UPS. I live in Canada and I paid once over 30% of the price of the item shiped in customs (300$ item, 110$ of customs!)

I'm not sure if you're going to bump in the same problem.

I just don't see what you guys are complaining about. For a 5lb box I pay 130$, and i live in canada, just across the boarded.

Well I need the arm so I just ate the charge and ordered anyway. All of the distributors are at least 20% more expensive which makes the cheaper shipping worthless.

I'm kind of sad because while I don't mind paying $300 for the bare arm + SSC-32 controller I would have just bought the full kit were it not for the $100 shipping. It's a shame that 30% has to go to UPS that could have gone to Lynxmotion.

I was about to do that too, but then I just couldn't spend the same amount of money on 2/3 of the products that I wanted just because the shipping was outrageous. I'd really love to give lynxmotion my business too.

As for customs, Australia doesn't charge customs for anything under $1000, which is great normally.

The Lynx 5 arm along with everything else I had sent by UPS in the past is zero rated. The problem is that they always run everything through with some default code for commercial goods and then kindly pass the charges on to the end customer. Then they charge a separate fee for 'handling' the customs process - which I personally find pretty outrageous given the obscene shipping fees they charge in the first place. Fedex have been very good lately but I'm not sure what they are like outside Taiwan.

Anyway, Lynxmotion are the only people supplying this level of quality at a reasonable price and my company are paying for it, not me.

The problem doesn't really seem to be with Lynxmotion - I have never heard a bad word said against them - but with the distributors. I have tried pretty much all of them within a 2,000 mile radius and the only vaguely professional outfit is in Singapore. Their service and support seems good but they want over US$650 for a Lynx 5 arm kit!

Read and understood. I will try to find a way to use USPS as a shipping option.
