Hey all!

I've just set up a GitHub page for Lynxmotion. The goal of this project is to have all of the code hosted on Lynxmotion.com that we use on our robots to be readily available to the Lynxmotion and robot community. We'd also like to make it as easy to contribute as possible. There's just one problem. Here at the office we know nothing about GitHub... So we're asking for your help to get this thing rolling in the right direction. If you know anything about how GitHub works you're already ahead of us.

This will be the Official Lynxmotion GitHub forum thread. All discussion concerning the Lynxmotion GitHub page should go in this thread.

Here's the page: https://github.com/Lynxmotion/

I've managed to create a repo for the Phoenix Code and i'll use this as an example of how we'd like for it to turn out.

What is it?
This repo should host all current working versions of the Phoenix hexapod code for the various microcontrollers it has been ported to.

Who can edit the code?
ANYONE!? We'd like for anyone to be able to suggest changes to the code; however, all final changes will be approved by Lynxmotion or The Gurus (Kurte, xan, zenta)

"Hey, I ported the Phoenix Code to run on ..."
Great! We'd love to have your port in our repo!

So, we need your help to make this happen. Show us what you can do.

Also, I found a guide that might be useful to anyone that has the time to sit down and go through it.

p.s. If I need to make changes to settings or the like in order for something to work just let me know in this thread.

This is the guide I used when I setup to be able to make changes to the PSX code:
http://help.github.com/win-set-up-git/

Edit: Forgot to mention, that I have had better luck using Internet Explorer than I have had using Firefox, when I am up on https://github.com.
Firefox did not appear to want to log me in properly...

I've spent some time on the GitHub page today and I believe I've managed to get all of our current public code on Git and in relevant repos! If you noticed that I've forgotten something be sure to let me know.

I am on GitHub as robotguy, linuxguy_pdx, and hybotics. I expect to have stuff to contribute over time. I'll be working primarily in Python v2.7 and v3.x as well as C/C++. Do I need to do anything special to gain write access to the repos? Can we create new subdirs? I've been here since 2006 and believe I am a competent programmer.

Where did you get your Python? Any experience with VPython?

What do you use on Linux for a comm port terminal. I saw one for internet or something, but it didn't look like it would work for just connecting to GPS module or something.

Do you do Arduino on Linux? I got it downloaded, but it looked like it was command line driven, rather then an IDE. I need a simple terminal program. You'd think that "terminal" would work, but I haven't figured out how to assign it to a port rather then to talk to Linux.

Also looking for good Linux (Ubuntu) and Python books.

P.S. Got Python 2.7 and the windows part loaded, trying to get VPython up so that I can play with the razor 9DOF IMU a little. (should also work on Linux).
