Ok, feel free to comment as well.
This is the poll for deciding which animal to base the Community hexapod on.
The thread is located here: http://www.lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php ... sc&start=0

Keep in mind that we are trying to keep programming simple and trying to stay within the dimensions of the lynxmotion Hexes in order to utilize existing software for motion gaits. Just different shaped components.

And everyone is welcome to join.

This is going to be alot of fun.

I'd say a scorpio would be sick! Especially if the tail and claws work :)

Im still holding to my original idea of the giraffe necked weevil (beetle) i think it would be an easier beginning base and as well the fact that we could put "jaws" at the end of the neck as well as the camera and have it grab things :)

I voted for an existing lynx hexapod but I think I want to change to scorpion design.

Having looked through our servo options, I'm rootin for the beetle now. :)

I think we could encounter the need for expensive servos to support a hex with 2 arms and a tail. We could instead use that weight to add an articulating neck and head to the beetle.

But I'm leaving it up to the community.

I am voting for the scorpion. I think thats something that we can "grow" to. For the camera, I was thinking we should place that in the place of the the stinger (so you still get an articulating camera, we would just need to be creative about how to wire the tail up)

(And just because we had a scorpion, there is no reason that the tail and claws can't be purely prosthetic too! No one said you HAD to make them move under control!)

It might just be me, but aesthetically, that weevil thing freaks me out!

I always wanted to design a hex that was never done before, and lets face it, this is the perfect opportunity to make a scorpian hex robot.

Oh god. Now you guys got me pumped about a scorpion. i wanted to stay away from it for cost sake but I think it would be really cool too.

And Sienna, you're right. The claws and tail could be purely cosmetic if necessary. And we could make the front 2 arms fake as well.

I actually have a really cool idea for a 9 joint tail.

It's looking like we are leaning towards a scorpion. Tomorrow we will decide and move on to servos, mechanics and shapes.

Getting such a long bodied hex to turn well might be a challange.

The shoulder spacing is exactly the same as the lynx inline hexes.
