Hey,Jonny.
Great idea! Something like this could put a real surprise factor in robot soccer matches.
Why don't you challenge DiaLFonZo to see who will be first to build it?
Robot Dude - How long before we see the kit? You have readily available parts.

Well in actual fact DialFonZo is already my Technical Support for this project. lol (He doesnt know this yet but he will soon.) :D

A flying Sphere with vertical propulsion and horizontal omnidirectional travel is very cool.

Agree! It would be really fun to build something like that. I like that its pretty safe for indoor flying. And I like that its spherical...

The sphere is only for visual purpose.
The 8 winged control will give it great maneuverability control.

Methinks the sphere also provides a bi-directional safety perimeter protecting both the bot and the world-at-large.

I really like your concept drawings, Jonny. Now where are your videos? :P

I made them in Blender.
I worked from his design, you can see more detail here:
I think this is how it works anyway.

EDIT: just found this.

I get it that it's a sphere; why not consider making it a ducted fan inside the sphere?

a rough translation says:
"The first flight is now made by Mr. RC Flying U spherical body with reference to the Ministry of Defense announced. From there I have to get a colleague takeoff from the ground that it did not work hard I was away, soon rose into the air out of hand, and U is non-pilot's posture becomes confused I have crashed it. For attitude control gyroscopes carried there is another, and only the yaw gyro was because there was no marker for horizontal flight around the spherical body itself, and is unable to operate. The next addition to the yaw direction, before it may be possible if the pilot introduction of 3-axis gyro control is also performed in the horizontal direction."

anyway here is another render idea.
im pretty sure it will still work like this with just 4 rudders instead of 8.?
